Marcel Reyes-Cortez

Marcel is a visual anthropologist and artist, born in Chile and now living and working between London and Taipei. He studied in London and graduated with a BA (Hons) in Photography and an MA in Social Anthropology, later became the first academic to be awarded a PhD in Visual Anthropology from Goldsmiths.

He spent several years doing ethnographic research and recording the daily life of workers in Mexico. In 2018, he carried out an artist in residency at Treasure Hill, Taipei. During this time he started to work with ceramics. And later in 2019 he had his first ceramic exhibition in Taipei. Marcel’s art practice is closely interlinked with social and political issues that concerns him. Combining trainings and perspectives from anthropology and photography, he often revisits his South American root to develop a unique artistic expression.
