Born in Gongju, Chungcheongnam-do, Korea, graduated in painting from Chung-Ang University and lives in Jeju Island. As a founding member of the ‘Renxu Year’, which aimed to ideologize the spirit of the times and realism, and to express the situation of uncertainty and transition, he joined the movement to speak out against the reality of the 1980s. His early work was mainly concerned with the base village. In the late 80s, he began to directly portray the victims of power, social contradictions and absurdities. He has opened a gallery in Jeju Island and is actively working as a realist artist.
