At the end of 2020, VT Artsalon is very honored to invite musician Bobby Chen and artist Chih-Wei Huang to present the “Finale — Bobby Chen x Chih-Wei Huang Duo Exhibition.” This exhibition is Bobby Chen’s first time showing his paintings, and the name of the exhibition comes from Bobby Chen’s new album “Finale” released this year. The word “Finale” means the final chapter of opera in English/French, yet the emphasis is not on the finale itself, but on the mentality to enter the world of creation and painting on the road to the final/end.

Bobby Chen picked up his paintbrush while creating music. His painting style is simple, pure, spontaneous and casual. Although he only paints with four colors, which are green, red, blue, and yellow, and with charcoal sticks, the picture is full of imagination and expressiveness. At the same time, the paintings are equipped with many symbolic and metaphorical signs, where he transformed the subconscious and dream scenes into a state where reality and reality overlap each other, to create a strange and weird world.

Artist Chih-Wei Huang looked back after the creation context of his previous art series “Célébration”, returned to the “I” that was digging up in the depths of his soul, trying to break out of the frame and the established mode, and jump out of many uncertainties, regardless of the visual orientation or the painting methods. To allow many things that he wanted to paint but didn’t paint, or wanted to say but didn’t say, to be presented in this “Finale” duo exhibition.

2020 is a year full of turbulence. It might be due to the epidemic, or it might be the end of the world, to let Chih-Wei Huang and Bobby Chen, two 20-year-old friends, gather in VT Artsalon. They have worked together on many things, in each other’s works, painting and songwriting, New Year’s Eve concerts, and just happily fooling around, stimulate and support each other. This time they used painting as a medium of dialogue, hoping to be a comfort to each other and respond to everyone’s distress and anxiety about the end of the world.
